Tracy Morgan Reveals He and Nas Are Related
Tracy Morgan confirmed that he is related to Grammy-winning rapper Nas. In an interview with the Connect the Dots podcast, he spoke about his upcoming episode on PBS’s Finding Your Roots.
“I turn the last page, and guess who’s sitting there? Nas. Me and Nas is third cousins on my mom’s side,” Morgan shared.
Morgan refers to Nas with the nickname “Esco,” and explained that they have been friends for years. He spoke about how he did a show for Comedy Central after Nas’ mother passed away. Even prior to the comedy show, he said that the two have “always been tight.”
The comedian said that once he found out that they were family, he called him and they had an emotional conversation about it.
“‘Yo Esco. Guess what? I just did Finding Your Roots, me and you related.’ He started crying, I started crying,” he said. “And I said to him, ‘If you ever need me, I’m there, cuz.’ He said, ‘Cuz, if you ever need me I’m there.'”

Tracy Morgan & Nas’ Careers
Career-wise, both Morgan and Nas continue to do well as veterans in their respective spaces. Morgan is mostly known for Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, and The Last O.G. In recent years he was in the sequel Coming 2 America starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, and guest-starred on CBS’s The Neighborhood starring Cedric The Entertainer and Max Greenfield.
As for Nas, he has had 17 Grammy nominations throughout his career and won his first-ever Grammy for King’s Disease in 2021 for Best Rap Album. He is nominated again for the 2024 in the same category for King’s Disease III .
Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. will have 10 episodes on PVS. The show premieres Jan. 2. Morgan’s episode of Finding Your Roots airs Feb. 20 on PBS.
