Eminem To Co-Produce Documentary Inspired By ‘Stan’ Record
Eminem is set to co-produce a documentary inspired by his hit record “Stan.” According to Variety, the documentary is a collab with Eminem’s Shady Films, DIGA Studios, and Hill District Media, with distribution from Paramount/ MTV. The documentary reportedly has Steven Leckart to direct. Leckhart has worked on “Challenger: The Final Flight,” “What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali” and the Hulu series “Legacy: True Story of the L.A. Lakers.”
Billboard reported that the synopsis of the film will be a “revealing, edgy and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic and enduring artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him.”
The Detroit rapper coined the term “Stan” with his 2000 record. “Stan” tells the story of a delusional Eminem fan who writes several letters obsessing over the rapper and grows upset about never getting a response. Eminem tries to write back to the fan, who ultimately ends up taking their life and his pregnant girlfriend’s after driving his car off a bridge.
On social media, “Stan” is a term used to refer to someone who is a very enthusiastic and dedicated fan of a particular celebrity, musician, or public figure. Merriam-Webster defines the meaning of “stan” as “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan.” It’s also recognized as a word in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Cameras turn around on Stans.
“Stans will be the opportunity for us to turn the camera around and ask the audience about being fans — and in some cases, fanatics,” Shady Films’ Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr said in a statement to Variety. “This is a study of the relationship between fanbase and artist through the lens of one of Eminem’s most fascinating songs and one of the world’s most important entertainers.”
Slated for later this year, the tentatively titled documentary “Stans” will do a deep dive into the complex relationship between fame and super fandom with Eminem, his music, and his most extreme fans.
