Philadelphia Shooting: Multiple Officers Injured in Shootout
A shootout in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tioga section has resulted in at least six Philadelphia Police Department officers being shot and rushed to the hospital. They are in stable condition.
ABC News, NBC News and WPIV-TV report the shootout began around 4:30 PM ET and is currently still active with at least one shooter. Officers were serving a drug warrant to a home at the time. Currently, the shooter has barricaded themselves in their home.
The Associated Press reports that two officers who were barricaded inside the home with the shooter have been “safely evacuated by a police SWAT team.”
Commissioner Richard Ross said in a news conference that there were other officers that were injured in addition to the six officers shot but did not offer a specific number.
UPDATE: The suspected shooter is in custody as of 12:30 am Thursday, according to CNN.
