Britney Spears Apologizes ‘For Pretending Like I’ve Been OK The Past Two Years’
Britney Spears has shared a statement via Instagram following her conservatorship hearing yesterday (June 23.)
Spears shared an image with an Albert Einstein quote that read, “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
The pop star captioned the image with a lengthy statement saying, “I just want to tell you guys a little secret. I believe as people we all want the fairy tale life, and by the way I’ve posted … my life seems to look and be pretty amazing … I think that’s what we all strive for !!!! That was one of my mother’s best traits … no matter how shi–y a day was when I was younger … for the sake of me and my siblings, she always pretended like everything was ok. I’m bringing this to peoples attention because I don’t want people to think my life is perfect because IT’S DEFINITELY NOT AT ALL … and if you have read anything about me in the news this week, you obviously really know now it’s not!!!!”
Spears continued, “I apologize for pretending like I’ve been ok the past two years … I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me … but honestly who doesn’t want to capture there [sic] Instagram in a fun light?”
She concluded, “Believe it or not pretending that I’m ok has actually helped … so I decided to post this quote today because by golly if you’re going through hell … I feel like Instagram has helped me have a cool outlet to share my presence … existence … and to simply feel like I matter despite what I was going through and hey it worked … so I’ve decided to start reading more fairy tales.”
Spears has been a focal point in entertainment news as of late due to her now 13-year-long conservatorship that she wants to end. Spears spoke at length via Zoom during a hearing in a Los Angeles courtroom and dropped many shocking allegations pertaining to her conservatorship, which has been primarily controlled by her father, Jamie Spears.
Among those allegations were how she was not allowed to get married or have a baby, has been forced to get an IUD implanted and was put on Lithium against her wishes.
“I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and I’m happy… I’m not OK, I’m not happy, I can’t sleep,” she said. “I’m so angry, it’s insane. And I’m depressed. My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management… they should be in jail.”
“It’s not okay to force me to do anything I don’t want to,” Spears said. “The conservatorship should end. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive.”
Spears doesn’t want to be evaluated to determine if she has regained her mental capacity. “I just want my life back,” the singer said. “All I want is to own my money and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. I want to sue my family.”
Spears admitted to lying about her well-being “for years.” She alleged her father “loved” the control he held over her as her conservator.
