Snoop Dogg Says He Wants To Own Death Row Records
Snoop Dogg is looking to build his empire and he wants that to include the label that launched his career, Death Row Records.
In a conversation with the podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game (per The Grio), the West Coast rapper said that he wants in on Death Row Records.
“I think all of Death Row should be in my hands,” Snoop said. “I should be running that s—… I helped create that. I think they should give me that and let me run that s— with the merchandise out, with the music all over the world. [Add] some new West Coast acts.”
The new West Coast acts the “Gin & Juice” rapper would like to sign are Roddy Ricch, Ty Dolla $ign, and YG. Snoop is certain under his leadership Death Row would be on the right track.
“It’s just a lot of heat over there and it’s not being handled right,” he told the hosts. “But a little birdie told me it may fly my way and if it do, you’ll get everything that I told you … If I can get Def Jam poppin’, what could I do with Death Row? Just imagine that.” Snoop is currently working as an executive consultant with Def Jam.
Death Row Records was originally founded by Dr. Dre and Suge Knight in 1991. Dr. Dre signed Snoop Dogg in 1992, and later signed Tupac Shakur in 1995. The three of them helped make the west coast label become what it is today. Death Row Records is now owned by the financial firm Blackstone who bought the label from Hasbro in 2021 for 385 million dollars, per Billboard.
