Moore County Man Says Lottery Win ‘Had to Be Fate’
A Moore County man said his $100,000 North Carolina Education Lottery win “had to be fate,” as he celebrated this week.
Steven Richter of Jackson Springs won the prize on a $30 200X the Cash scratch-off ticket, that he purchased at the Speedway on N.C. 5 in Aberdeen.
“The winning number that I had was ‘six’ and that’s my mother’s maiden name,” Richter said. “It had to be fate.”
The win was the first $100,000 winner on the new scratch-off ticket.
“I thought it was just a $100 winner at first,” Richter said. “I guess it just happened to be my time.”
Richter said he called his wife right away to tell her the good news.
“I told her to guess how much I won,” Richter said. “She still can’t believe it.”
Richter picked up his prize Wednesday at North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters, and will take home $71,019 after federal and state tax withholdings. He’s going to use the money to pay bills and store away for his daughter’s college education.
The 200X The Cash game launched this month with six top prizes of $5 million and 18 $100,000 prizes. Six $5 million prizes and 17 $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how $4.8 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Moore County in 2021, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
