Bella Ramsey and Ariana DeBose Squash ‘Beef’
Bella Ramsey and Ariana DeBose have squashed the beef recently formed between the talented actors in record time. What happened? The Last of Us star was presenting during Sunday’s (January 14) Critics Choice Awards alongside In the Heights star Anthony Ramos. While reading off a teleprompter, Ramsey, 19, described the category of best song nominees. They were split between songs “delivered by some of the most famous voices in the music industry,” referring to Billie Eilish, Lenny Kravitz, and Dua Lipa. The rest of the nominees were DeBose, Jack Black, and Ryan Gosling: “actors who also think they are singers.” DeBose, whose Disney movie Wish was nominated for its song “This Wish,” looked genuinely confused when the camera panned to her, before smiling and laughing. She later criticized the joke on her Instagram Stories writing: “No I didn’t find it funny. Lol.” Despite Gosling also being pooled in with those seemingly painted as unworthy, he won the best song award for the Barbie soundtrack song, “I’m Just Ken.”
After all, DeBose is a Tony Award-nominated Broadway actress. The North Carolina native previously won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 2021 musical West Side Story. Though Ramsey’s joke was written by Critics Choice Awards writers, folks came to DeBose’s defense. Jamie Lee Curtis defended DeBose with a heated post on Instagram which has since been deleted. Per Variety, Curtis, who came to DeBose’s defense in the past, shared a clip of Ramsey’s joke. However, in the clip Curtis shared, it ended with DeBose belting out various songs. “Are you f—ing kidding me!” Curtis wrote in the caption. “Ariana DeBose is a queen. #backthef—off #shutthef—up.” One day and an awards show later, Ramsey and DeBose made it known to all there is no bad blood between them, as they were photographed hugging each other in the audience at the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday.
